The Crazy Syndrome-Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

OCD is a very common illness in society which is very often ignored, not because its stigma but because people laugh behind the back of sufferers and consider it as craziness of sufferer.

IT IS NEVER CONSIDERED A PROPER DISEASE.

It is characterized by intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) that the individual feels compelled to perform.

It's not just about being overly neat or orderly, as many stereotypes suggest, but it can involve a wide range of obsessions, from fears of contamination to unwanted violent or taboo thoughts to Hoarding that is difficulty discarding items. Religious or Moral Obsessions are another set of OCD behavior.

Readers can very easily get the idea of what a OCD is. What is more important for readers is to know the hell in which a person suffers. To explain let me give some real life examples. A 60 yrs old gentlemen suffering from arthritis skin disorder get himself locked for bathing for 3-4 hours and he uses harsh detergent soaps because he think it will clean him more, his skin gradually dries up making him prone to bruises cuts and subsequent infections, but he is helpless he couldn't stop washing the already damaged skin again and again.

Similarly a newly wed women shuns away from physical relations because to her that is unclean thus hampering her married and family life. This is just a peek in universe of repetitive thoughts and compelling behavior.

Why some behaviors and thought process tend to be compelling

There is no fix cause behind OCD but few responsible elements are

  • Dopamine Overactivity, leading to strengthening of compulsive behavior.

  • Serotonin Underactivity, had to be made available in brain neurons which means better control of behavior , this is done with SSRI or Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

  • Glutamate Overactivity i.e. it is involved in excitatory neurotransmission, which means it helps activate neurons. In OCD, abnormal glutamatergic signaling can affect brain circuits involved in anxiety and compulsive behaviors. Reducing glutamate levels or inhibiting its activity could help normalize excitatory transmission and reduce symptoms associated with OCD.

There are multiple other factors but these are important because in majority of the cases tampering the levels of these three ie Dopamine Serotonin and Glutamate alleviate the symptoms but relapses are common let alone side effects. To control relapse of OCD symptoms, with gradual tapering counselling sessions are required.

Homeopathy in contrast of the above specifically targets individual behavior because while recording the symptoms and symptom sets of individual medicines the doctors have recorded every hue and every color of every possible human emotion and condition.

Let me explain: a stereotype OCD patient with cleaning mania is further analyzed questioned and specific set of symptoms matching a specific medicine is noted down. So a cleaning mania could be due to fear of worms, fear of infection, passion for cleanliness or passion for minor details. the reasons were much more then above, and they are important because OCD is mainly a clinical disease ie there are no specific test to diagnose and judged the severity of symptoms or efficiency of drugs. Homeopathy medicines have proved there clinical efficiency and there efficiency can be proved again and again in clinical setup, provided that homeopaths are allowed to work freely.
